Our Roots

2017 - 2024

Soul Alphabet is an ecosystem that supports our Bla(c)k and brown community through art, music and other creative work. This ecosystem was birthed from the ideas of artists, organisers, students - everyday people - and we hope that it continues to resurface in that same spirit.

We work on artistic and educational workshops, events, consultations, research, exhibitions, conversations list goes on. The principles that ground every aspect of our work are:

  1. Community Building: through collaboration, the act of working as a collective is honoured. We build with artists, folks and sometimes institutions we feel free enough to lay down our own terms.

  2. Afro-futurism: Our dreams are in constant conversation with Black folks globally on how expansive, safe and beautiful our futures can be.

  3. Safer spaces: we always work towards ensuring that our events are providing safer spaces to the most marginalised Bla(c)k and brown communities.

  4. Transformational realities: every project and event we work on provides vast realities that are truly transformational. We are always open to listening, learning, asking and shapeshifting into an entity that is authentic and responsive.
